Depiction in a consultant's toolbag?
Posted February 5th, 2009 by chuckbrownEven though we're a hi-tech company, we're still easily stymied - and impressed - by technology. Case in point - we tried our first webinar yesterday - a basic 20 minute overview to Depiction - and it seemed to be well received in spite of a few technical glitches at the beginning. I had a chance to host it and really enjoyed the questions from attendees. We'll plan on doing those regularly so stay tuned.

Depicting floods using higher resolution elevation data
Posted January 14th, 2009 by KimUsing Depiction to create and display floods requires having elevation data. The elevation data available through Depiction’s Quickstart resource list is from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) – it is their default “30 meter resolution” – in other words, every 100 feet or so, it measures the height of the terrain. In general, this is good enough for big picture stuff.
Depiction in use at County EOC
Posted January 11th, 2009 by KimDuring the recent flooding disaster in Washington State, I volunteered at the Snohomish County Emergency Operations Center and used Depiction to maintain a current "picture" of what was happening: mapping road closures, dike breeches, shelter activations, reports of flooded neighborhoods, etc to provide the EOC leadership with improved situational awareness. The screenshot at right is representative of the geographic "sitreps" I provided using Depiction, and was used to brief the pilots who flew the County Executive on his helicopter tour of the County.
