Getting Haiti data into Depiction

We've had several inquiries about looking at data related to the Haiti earthquake in Depiction. Our video showed how easy it is to get basic earthquake data into Depiction--and you can now view a related depiction online--but what most people are concerned about at the moment is the recovery situation.

QST 'Short Takes' Depiction review

The QST article by Depiction user David Friedman, KE7GOY, is now available for download as a PDF. David has used Depiction to do some pretty remarkable things, some of which he describes in the article. Here's how it kicks off:

Depiction featured in QST Magazine--special offers & webinars for Amateur Radio Operators

Depiction is reviewed in the November edition of QST Magazine*, and we're following that up with a special offer for QST readers, and a webinar for Amateur Radio Operators.

Earthquake! (Virtual Drill)

Tomorrow we're going to cohost, along with the Everett, Washington Department of Emergency management, the Everett Office of Neighborhoods, and the Snohomish County Red Cross, a new kind of disaster preparedness event.

Using Depiction, groups of people participating in the drill will make an emergency plan for "the Johnsons," a fictional family in North Everett. Then, an 8.0 earthquake hits, and the attendees will have to make decisions for the Johnsons, to get them through the crisis safely.

National Preparedness Month Add-On & More

Today we announced a whole slate of initiatives supporting National Preparedness Month as a coalition member. The coolest of all of these is easily our Preparedness Add-On pack, built to help communities & families prepare for disaster.

We based the add-on on the three steps for preparedness from Ready.gov. From our release:

Howard Hanson Dam & Green River Flooding

Just today, King County declared an emergency in anticipation of flooding from the leaking Howard Hanson Dam. (Gary posted here about the Howard Hanson Dam sinkhole back in February).

Red Cross-only webinar September 16

Red Cross chapters around the country are finding Depiction to be a valuable tool in planning for and responding to emergenies. We are excited to be supporting the great work of the Red Cross, and as part of our activies as a National Preparedness Month coalition member, we are offering a free webinar specifically for Red Cross staff and volunteers.
