More about MGRS/US National Grid

I would suggest that USNG/MGRS be allowed in any location where lat/long is permitted. Furthermore, it would be useful to have a setting to create "hovers" with the grid coordinates along with lat/long. It would go a long way to bridge the "communications gap" between civilian responders and Coast Guard/National Guard pilots regarding "where". Addditionally, it is my belief that verbal radio transmission of grid coordinates is less likely to be mishandled than degrees-minutes-seconds, fractional degrees, etc.
Thanks for the webinar today!

Thanks
John,
Thanks for this. We'll look into the sources available. So far, I have only found shapefiles from Delta State University's GIT Department. We need a WMS (windows mapping service) to add it as a Quickstart source. If you know of one, please share.

George, there is an
George, there is an algorithm to convert the coordinates. It is available here http://earth-info.nga.mil/GandG/geotrans/index.html in source and object form.

Cool
That looks like a very useful tool, John. Thanks for the pointer. I've passed it on to our dev team to see if they can figure out a way to include it's functionality in Depiction.
