Coverage of Ham Repeater
Posted November 24th, 2009 by skingusmc
How do you set the coverage for a ham repeater antenna?
We would like to be able to have a colored circle (a color that we can choose) go around the location based on the distance of coverage we want.
Example:
South Mountain repeater is located at:
| N34.330977° W119.022474° |
and we want 30 mile radius of coverage and a blue circle to show it on the map.
Thanks
Steve

Steve, Probably the simplest way would be to use the Surveillance Camera element and set the range to 158,400 ft. Just add a surveillance camera element to your depiction, give it the name HAM Repeater, then right click and save it to your element library (be sure to give it the name HAM Repeater again). Now a HAM Repeater element will appear in your Element list. Add a Ham Repeater element by mouse (or by address: entering the Lat Long you indicated) and set the range at 158,400 ft (30 miles) and click on the Fill color bar to bring up the color palette so you can change the color to blue. You should end up with what you want PLUS a HAM Element in your library list that you can use in other depictions. Took me just a couple minutes to do this and here's a screen shot of the result:
YAS (Yet Another Suggestion)
George --
If you are interested in a more accurate coverage model and don't have heartburn with the GPLv2 licensing terms, John KD2BD has developed an open-source line-of-sight propagaation model which will run on Windows and Linux; he has a good website regarding this software (SPLAT!) at www.qsl.net/kd2bd/splat.html. It would make a worthy companion to Depiction!.

Thanks!
We are logging all of these suggestions and doing our best to keep up!
