Icons

I just tried using the feature where I added my own icon to my element library as follows:  I created a new icon and added it to my library.  I then decided to add some changes to this new icon and then copied the new changes to my library.   Now I have two icons with the same name and want to delete one of them.  How do I delete the icon I don't want?

I love this feature!

ICONS

Lenora,

We will be working on an Element Library Manager sometime in the future to make it easy to do what you're asking. In the meantime, deleting a non-standard (i.e. Depiction) element from your library requires going to your AppData/Local/Depiction/Elements folder and deleting the .dml file associated with the element you want deleted from your library. Any depictions that you've created that have that element in it's library will still have it. This is because when you save a Depiction to a file, ALL the element definitions are saved with it. This allows you to send a depiction with your own elements in it to someone else, and when they open that depiction, it will still have all your special elements in it.

icon locations

My elements are located on an C:\Program Files\Common Files\Depiction\Elements.  I hope a tutorial on element modification, saving to library, moving from one depiction to another, and sending the *.dml file to other users who agree on the added properties they want the icon to represent are going to be addressed.  Sharing icon *.dml 's can be messy if at first the "fuctional parameters of the properties" are not defined in a manner that will not create excessive CSV file loading and re-loading for icon's that may share common properties.  I know you're working on "sub-icons" indentured to a higher icon level which may solve this issue???

Icon build and share

I also built an Icon and was trying to use it in Interaction and got a little lost in the "rules concept"...live and learn.  Anywho... what about an export Icon only button to a Icon Library so I can import what I created in one depiction to be imported into another?  Or the L and d become all my icons available??? That would be a mess to keep scrolling down to use.  I would rather see them in functional catagories to pick and choose for the type of depiction being worked on...

Elements v. Interactions

Greg,
The new icon you added to an element is saved in your Depiction element library by right clicking on the element, then selecting "Save to my library" for that element. You will then be able to use the new element in any depiction and share it with others via depiction file or sending the element by email.
The interaction rules are, as you can see more complex. In order to make an interaction rule work with an element you create, you need to start with an element that is already in an interaction rule (give it a new name, possibly icon, etc. and save it to the library), then copy that interaction rule and make sure your element is involved in the same way the original was. We're working on a tutorial video for this.
Best,
George

Delete Elements from Library

I also would like to be able to delete elements from the element library, for two reasons:

1.  It happens that I created one and misspelled the name, which I now cannot correct.

2.  In a working group it is desirable to standardize which elements will be used for what feature, and the selection that is presently available, especially with the add on, provides too many choices for the inexperienced or sporadic user to choose from.
