Trouble loading NED30 Elevation data (USA)
At least one user had notified us that when they tried to load NED 30m elevation data (for various locations in the country) they got back a 'source unavailable or there is no data for your region' kind of error notification.
I can think of a couple of possibilities:
1) our server was loaded with concurrent requests from too many users. If this were the case, trying again in a short while should make a difference. Also, remember that once you get elevation data for a region, they are cached on your computer. So, the next time you request elevation data for that neighborhood, Depiction will use the cached data to construct your elevation grid (no fresh downloads);
2) our server is unreachable from your computer for some reason. Try opening up a browser and type in the following URL: http://portal.depiction.com/geoserver/wcs?service=WCS&request=GetCapabil... Do you get anything back in the browser? For Internet Explorer, you should get a nicely-formatted XML file. If you don't get a response, it is possible that our server is not accessible via your firewall/ISP.

NED Upload
I initally had the problem. I tried later and "waited." Apparently I like most try to "move along" and forget that it takes some "time" to accomplish the end result. When I did wait, the Alert box appeared and informed me a load of 24 pages of data. They loaded only for the "disaster area initially chosen"; therefor; I HOPE, or think it was because I left my mouse pointer in the depiction and not off map. As a result the NED did down load. I was able to take my Delorme Topo 7 or 8 version and follow the tutorail on resizing the "bmp" from paint into the default openStreets where by the transparent alignment was right on after a bit of playing around.
Next I brought in the NED revealer over the same topo layer and low and behold the triangle peaks on the street and the top elevation on my Topo lined up with the NED.
Greg, K7SDW.... working on how to filter just the APRS for my area and not all of USA as that load takes too long as well as icon's disapearing upon a refresh. Go figure?
NED
Excellent! Very good to hear. Next time you do depictions around this area, you won't be hitting the server for the elevation data since the elevation data (0.25deg by 0.25 deg square) are cached on your local disk.
Any chance you're able and willing to post a snapshot of the dataset alignment (topo lining up with NED)?
Oh, and the elevation data is automatically cropped to the depiction region you choose.

K7SDW: APRS stations downloaded from the openaprs.net
feed is bounded by the current extents of the map you see in Depiction (what is called the viewport). It is not cropped/filtered to your depiction extent.
Even if you zoom out to display the entire US, you wouldn't be crashing your computer or taking up too much resources.
