Saving Routes

I downloaded the trial version and have made up a couple csv files to play around with.

I'd like to try and create a specific route using waypoints.  Once completed, is there a way to save this route and bring it back up later?  I couldnt find anything other than possibly importing it to the Library, but that doesn't work.

Thanks ...

Ron

saving user-drawn routes

Ron,
If you save the depiction (from the File menu option), the user-drawn route element would be saved. You can then reopen it via the 'Open Depiction' option at startup. Let me know if I'm missing something.

I was thinking something more along the lines of a csv file that could then be imported to a map.  Hadn't thought of trying it as a depiction - will give that a try though.

Saving and importing user-drawn routes

Ron,
Most elements in Depiction (or collections of elements) can be exported as GML and brought back into another story or other GIS programs that can handle GML (most do).

In order to do this, you choose MANAGE from the menu bar, choose the element of interest, and click on EXPORT button. This will save the element in a GML file (with a .gml extension).

To bring it into another story/depiction, you use ADD from the menu bar, choose "File" and assign a suitable role to this element.

Hope that helps.

Some elements cannot be exported as GML

Ron,
I forgot to mention that some elements cannot be saved as GML. Unfortunately (for you at this stage), routes cannot be saved as GML. You can still save the depiction as a dpn file and reload it.

Routes can now be saved to .gml

Also,

if you manually edit the .gml file and remove the ElementType cards, then you can re-import as Auto-Detect elements, and they come in as lines. This eliminates the CPU overhead of having a bunch of routes that are constantly trying to figure out if they should recalculate.
