Route Calculation
Posted February 23rd, 2009 by KI4HLW
When putting in Evac Routes I am noticing it is calculating the route by shortest distance with no consideration of road types, and I cannot figure out a way to change the suggested route.
The issue lies in the fact that the shortest distance is often running the route through residential neighborhoods and other road not designed to handle that amount of traffic of an evac, and when I run simulations it is not taking into account disasters on the actual evac route.
I would suggest adding a kind of waypoint system so the route can be adjusted to match real life conditions.

Route calc
Brian,
On the route laid down by Depiction, you can add waypoints. Just hold down the Shift key and click to add waypoints.
You are right, the current route calc algorithm looks for the shortest path. We certainly hope to refine it progressively by offering the user different optimization options -- chief among them would be utilization of additional info about the road types/directions, etc.

Update
Our new road networks are one-way aware, so some of this is mitigated.
Still, you may find it best to add way points to make the route go the best way, not necessarily the shortest.
Best,
